Lake George: Originated from what has been described as a Natural Submarine River. With the movement of the glaciers bubbling springs were exposed and filled the valley between the Adirondack Mountains, flowing north and via an original natural dam poured into Lake Champlain. Lake George was the center of the French and Indian wars. The earliest records of Names refers to the Algoquin Indians calling it Andia-ta-rochte. The Mohawk Indians called it Caniad-eri-oit. The first written history mentions the missionary Father Isaac Jogues and the lake being named Lac Du St. Sacrement. In his book The Last of the Mohicans, James Fenemore Cooper named it Lake Horicon and finally named for King George II of Great Britain. Keep checking this Web Page. Put it in your Favorite Places. You will be seeing more unique underwater pictures of  Underwater Lake George.

French Point: Location of the Sherman House, a hotel built in 1870's  The pier extends a couple of hundred feet along the shore and if you explore  in either direction you will find two smaller docks.  Where you had docks you had activity. Think in terms of an arms throw...About 80 feet out from the dock the water is deeper with a silt bottom. Still much underwater exploring to do in this area.  WebFrenchSue3.JPG (7659 bytes)
