Picture: Adding the sodium hydroxide
Setup: Electrolytic Reduction involves setting up or creating an electrolytic cell. To accomplish this, first fill the container with enough water to cover the iron object completely. Then add the electrolyte (sodium hydroxide) at about a 5% strength. Next, take a length of wire and wrap it tightly around the iron object and make sure that you have enough wire so as to have the end extending out of the solution.
Use of plastic grating, such as the ceiling inserts used in drop ceiling lighting, is great to keep the object off the bottom of the container(as pictured).
