Wear protective glasses and gloves are recommended. Sodium Hydroxide is very damaging, not only to clothing but to the skin and eyes. If you should come in contact with it, completely submerge the part in fresh water. If it splashes in your eyes put your face in the water and open your eyes to flush them. See a physician immediately.
Materials list:
* A container large enough to hold and completely submerge the iron object. Fiberglass or a
   Rubbermaid container is good.
* A 6 volt charger with a 1 amp output will supply the D.C. power source (a motor-cycle battery
   charger will work well).  If you have an old rechargeable battery charger, you can set it up with
   alligator clips and it will do the job.
* Red Devil Lye (Sodium Hydroxide). Can be purchased at most Super Markets. Buy the type that has          no aluminum chips.
* Stainless steel wire, 15 to 20 gauge, for a cannon ball . Larger objects may require
   heavier wire.
* Alligator Clips and plastic egg crate material to keep object off the bottom of the container.
* Stainless steel bolts or any stainless scraps to be used as the Anode, on the plus side +.
