DIVEMASTER
Four & one-half Day Certification Program
COURSE DESCRIPTION / OBJECTIVE
The Divemaster rating is the highest leadership level certification with the exception of
Instructor.The program is designed to train experienced and knowledgeable divers to
organize and conduct safe and enjoyable openwater dives for certified divers. Divemaster
is an insured rating and fulfills the required prerequisite for Scuba Instructor
Certification. Course work includes in-water training as well as classroom lectures and
discussions. We offer the Divemaster rating with NAUI or PADI certification
PREREQUISITES
o At least 18 years old, a good diver, well practiced in diving skills, and comfortable in
the water.
o Verification of good physical condition with a medical exam within the last 12 months.
o Certified for a minimum of 1 year with 50 logged dives.
o Minimum of 20 hours bottom time during past 2 years.
o Rescue Diver Certification & current Professional CPR and First Aid.
o Suitable equipment for openwater diving.
COURSE DURATION:
34 hour program over a 4 and a half day period. Of this time 4 hours is administrative, 14
hours are spent in lectures and discussions and 16 hours (7 dives) is devoted to in-water
activities.

o. Moral and Legal Aspects (Engendered Reliance)
o. Environments, surface and underwater
o. First Aid and CPR in diving
o. Cause and prevention/ Problem recognition, problem solving, instincts and habits
(creative instinct)
o. Rescues (Assisted Rescues, simulated): boat and shore, creative instinct
o. Accident Management: response, assessment, support, evacuation, and reports
o. Forecasting
o. Role and Responsibilities of the Divemaster
o. Night and low visibility diving
o. Shore vs. boat diving
o. Deep and decompression diving
o. Special diver equipment and problems
o. Pre and post dive lectures and briefings
o. Management and control

EQUIPMENT NEEDED
Full Scuba equipment ( Complete open water skin and scuba diving gear appropriate for the
area ). Towels warm up clothes, note book, dive tables, slate, timing device, compass and
log book. All the equipment is available for purchase at our facility.
SKILL EVALUATION:
Participants should be able to perform the following skills satisfactorily and without
undue stress prior to entering the course and may be requested to perform any or all as
pre entrance evaluation criteria. The exact skills required differ slightly between the
NAUI and PADI course.
SWIMMING SKILLS (without equipment)
1) 440 yards, non stop, any stroke, maximum 10 minutes
2) Survival Float for 20 minutes
3) Recovery of 10 lb. weight from 8-10 feet of water
4) 50 yard tow
5) 25 yard u/water swim
SKIN DIVING SKILLS: (mask, fins, snorkel, B\C, suit &
weights)
1) Entries and exits
2) Swim 880 yards within 18 minutes
3) Skin diving ditch and recovery
SCUBA SKILLS: (full open-water scuba gear)
1) Surface assembly, removal and replacement of each piece of equipment
2) Scuba Ditch and Recovery
3) Scuba Life Saving Transport, tow another scuba diver100 yards within 4 minutes
4) Underwater demonstration of mask clearing, regulator and/ or alternative air source
sharing and buoyancy control
5) Bailout: enter water with all gear in hand and air off. Turn air on, submerge and donn
equipment, surface and tread water
for 5 min.

The Trainers for this Divemaster Program are Career Professionals and have developed and
refined this course as a result of years of hands on experience, As Salvors, Boat
Captains, Scuba Instructors and Divemasters. They have the skills and knowledge to help
you develop into a safe, confident and effective Divemaster.

Tuition: $450.00 Boat dive trips not included in tuition.
Registration Fee: $50.00, (administrative)
Refundable Deposit: $50.00 for hand-outs, books and video use
